Wok&Go tackles food poverty

Noodle franchise Wok&Go donates a £2,000 voucher to Ellesmere Port community project.

The Chester location of global noodle brand Wok&Go has donated £2,000 worth of vouchers to Ellemere Port community project, dedicated to putting an end to food poverty. The noodle bar franchise raised over a hundred food vouchers that were worth £20 each and gave them to The Port Grocery.

The community food club is open for anyone in the community to join and there aren’t eligibility criteria. People pay around £5 a week and receive £16-£20 worth of food, including frozen and fresh meat, canned and fresh fruit and vegetables, and more. You can find the Port Grocery at Trinity Church on Whitby Road.

Laura Harvey, Operations Director for Wok&Go, commented: "Our Ellesmere Port Store Manager Kelly got in touch with our Chester head office and Des Pheby, our founder, to tell us about the project and ask if there was anything we could do to support the local community.

"Needless to say, we were all on board. We were amazed at the work that goes into this project and special credit needs to go to its inspiring founder Rita Lewis, who has created something very special for the community.”

The vouchers can be exchanged for any items from Wok&Go’s Asian-fusion menu.

"There are so many different ways people can get involved with this heart-warming project. I’d like to encourage all local businesses to visit The Port Grocery and see how they can support their community.

"Even if you don’t have lots of unused food, a donation for a fresh hot meal can truly make someone’s day.”
