Driver Hire geared up for one of the most exciting events of the transport world’s year – National Lorry Week.
Driver Hire has been celebrating the fifth annual National Lorry Week, which ran from the 16th to the 22nd of September. The business franchise was one of the event’s key sponsors and helped to celebrate the vital role that lorry drivers (and the wider transport industry) play in all of our lives, which is all too often overlooked.
Explaining the impact that the transport industry has on the general public, Driver Hire’s Network Development Director, Simon Johnston, said:
“Without the lorry, supermarket shelves would be empty, we’d soon be running short of petrol and UK industry would quickly grind to a halt. According to the Road Haulage Association (RHA) 98 percent of all goods consumed in the UK are transported by road and haulage and logistics provides jobs for 2.54 million people, making it the UK’s fifth largest employer. It also offers a massive boost to the UK economy every single year, contributing £124 billion of value. There are around 600,000 goods vehicle licence holders in the UK and 524,500 commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes registered in the UK.”
The annual celebration is now in its fifth year and was organised by the RHA to make the general public more aware of the road’s hidden heroes. Alongside Driver Hire, tyre manufacturer Goodyear and payment provider Snap Account offer their sponsorship to make the annual celebration possible.
Simon also explained how Driver Hire helps its franchisees by sponsoring important national events.
“Support for national events is another element of the outstanding all-round support we offer our franchisees. They’re registering their support for ‘National Lorry Week’ through social media, which all helps to raise their profile amongst clients and drivers. We’ve recently been nominated for a Franchise Marketing Award and this is another example of how we help our franchisees run highly successful businesses.”
