Southend Cash Converters celebrate the World Cup while raising money
Southend Cash Converters raise money for local homeless charity with table-football tournament
Southend Cash Converters has been fundraising for a local homeless charity by launching a Subbuteo challenge instore. The store is trying to raise as much money as possible using the table-top game and are inviting customers to come along and test their skills.
To honour the start of the FIFA World Cup, store manager Stewart Grant thought that the retro football game would be a great way to get customers involved at Cash Converters’ South Church Road shop. The charity the company’s supporting is HARP, a local organisation that aims to provide support and practical solutions for those who’ve found themselves on the streets. Its goal is to support people as they take steps to overcome homelessness.
Customers and staff will enter the ‘Cash Converters League’, a twelve team Subbuteo tournament, by paying a one-off fee of £6. There will be lots of prizes up for grabs during the FIFA World Cup, including a £50 store voucher and a Champion’s League edition of Subbuteo for the winner and other vouchers for runners up.
Store manager Stewart Grant wants to encourage people of all ages and abilities to enter and explained why he’s decided to host the tournament.
“It’s all a bit of fun for those taking part, but the proceeds will hopefully go to making a real difference in the homeless community, with funds raised going directly to HARP. Our area has a real homelessness and rough sleeper problem and as a store we want to support the work this wonderful charity does.”
Games will be played on selected dates throughout June and July, with the grand final scheduled for the 14th of July.
Cash Converters launched its first UK store in 1991 and now has over 200 stores across the country, specialising in pawning and selling second-hand goods.
