Apollo Blinds Sponsors the Mighty Half Manx Mountain Marathon
Apollo Blinds is proud to sponsor one of the Isle of Man’s biggest events, the Half Manx Mountain Marathon.
This Easter weekend saw the return of the legendary Manx Mountain Marathon and the Half Manx Mountain Marathon.
One of the Isle of Man’s most notorious events, it saw over 100 runners take to the island’s fells to take part in a physical endurance challenge that required all the strength man could muster. Another 70 people ran over the fells to take part in the half marathon event.
The half marathon covered 21.5km and included four summit checkpoints. Finishing in Bradda Glen in Port Erin, the route took runners across dam walls, farms and coastal paths, as they traversed the hills of the Isle of Man.
Every runner had to be prepared for the weather and were required to carry a full-body waterproof cover, thermals (if needed), a map and compass, whistle and emergency food rations. This equipment adds extra weight to the already-demanding challenge.
A wide range of runners took place, with a number of people from the Isle of Man and across the waters in England and Wales.
The quickest of the group was Orran Smith from the Isle of Man. He managed to get around the full course in just over 5 hours 20 minutes. Given that the course took them up to summits, this is a very commendable achievement. Lots of runners took around eight to nine hours to complete the course.
Apollo Blinds’ half marathon event, saw runners getting around the course in anything from 1 hour 52 minutes to four hours.
