Zip Yard battles Dementia with cupcakes

Zip Yard’s Chester branch took part in an event to raise money and awareness for charity Alzheimer’s Society.
National Cupcake Day, which was set up by the Alzheimer’s Society, was held on the 14th of June. It was started by the charity as a way to bring people together over the delicious treats while raising money to help support those suffering and their families. The event raised over £1,000,000 in 2017 alone and the money was put towards running its dementia helpline and opening more dementia cafes for sufferers and their families.
Zip Yard wanted to get in on the fundraising event this year. The tailoring and garment alterations company hosted a Cupcake Day at its Frodsham Street branch in Chester. Owner Shama Perveen gave customers free cupcakes with Zip Yard’s logo on and explained why she felt it was so important to join in with the fundraising event.
“Dementia devastates lives. In the UK someone develops dementia every three minutes and there is currently no cure. Everyone has a family member, friend or colleague who is affected by this terrible condition and the national cupcake day is a great way to help the Alzheimer’s Society raise money for much needed research. We encouraged customers to enjoy a delicious bright yellow and black Zip Yard cupcake and pop a donation into our Alzheimer’s Cupcake Day collection box.”
Specialising in quality tailoring that promises to be ready within 48 hours, Zip Yard has been Northern Ireland’s top clothes alteration franchise since it was established in 2005. It now has over 56 stores across the UK and has won six accolades celebrating the excellence of its franchise system since 2011.
