Wok&Go has committed to giving £2,000 in food vouchers every month to a Liverpool charity.

Nugent supports vulnerable children and adults in the city by providing care, education and protection services.

According to Laura Harvey, the Operations Director of Wok&Go’s parent company, Pheby Food Concepts Group, donating to the charity allows the noodle bar franchise to support vulnerable people. She said,

“It’s been a difficult year for everybody, particularly the most vulnerable in society. We’re all hoping for a better year in 2021 and the easing of restrictions will contribute towards that in the coming months.”

Normandie Wragg, Nugent’s CEO, said:

“Even before the coronavirus pandemic hit, a concerning number of Liverpool households were struggling to make ends meet. More than two in three children are living in poverty in parts of Merseyside. The pandemic has put even more families with children on the brink of poverty.

“With unemployment on the rise and thousands of jobs at risk across the region, we are thrilled that Des [of Pheby Food Concepts] has stepped up to support our efforts to tackle this crisis head-on. We hope his action inspires more people to get in touch with Nugent and support our action against food poverty.”

So far, Wok&Go has already given more than £5,000 to other causes, including The Port Grocery in Ellesmere Port, and provided food for vulnerable families over half-term holidays. Plus, alongside sister brand Dough Dough, the franchise distributed over 1,000 free meals to NHS workers at Chester Countess Hospital.

In the future, Nugent intends to open more mobile food pantries and food banks to reach additional families. It’s particularly keen to support communities without access to fresh produce and is appealing for other companies to provide regular supplies of nutritious food and suitable vehicles for transporting it.
