Wok&Go gives £2,000 vouchers to community food group

Wok&Go has said it’ll give £2,000 in food vouchers every month to local food membership club, The Port Grocery.

The community group is based at Trinity Church, opposite Wok&Go’s Ellesmere Port branch, and tries to reduce food waste and provide vital supplies to those who need them. It’s been up and running since 2016 and is taking steps to support local people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, The Port Grocery will be able to offer its members food vouchers to use at the Wok&Go outlet opposite.

Rita Lewis, the community group’s founder, said,

“We are in unprecedented times and unchartered waters. People are coming together to help and protect each other. This amazing offer from Wok&Go demonstrates how businesses want to help our community.

“For some, going for a Wok&Go is a luxury or a treat. Wok&Go has now made this available to many of our members who are feeling the pinch with furlough and job losses. It couldn’t have come at a better time to lift the spits of our members. Well done Wok&Go.”

This isn’t the first time Wok&Go has taken action to support the community. It also gave The Port Grocery £2,000 in vouchers in February earlier this year, and created free childrens lunch boxes during half-term breaks. The noodle bar franchise unit also partnered with sister brand Dough Dough to donate 1,000 free meals to NHS workers at Chester Countess Hospital.

Des Pheby, founder of Pheby Food Concepts group, which owns Wok&Go and Dough Dough, said,

“People are facing an anxious period of time in the coming months. With the changing regulations and people constantly being asked to change their way of life, we want to be able to provide a little something that might make things easier for them.”
