Travelodge seeks to increase Cornish presence

Travelodge is heading down south as it scouts out new sites across the picturesque county of Cornwall.

Travelodge has announced that it’s actively looking for more sites across Cornwall, giving the county a boost both financially and in terms of the opportunities available to those who live there.

The hotel franchise said it’s hoping to double its Cornish presence in the next few years, establishing it as the largest budget hotel chain in the county. A brand new 63-room hotel has just opened in Cambourne, Redruth, creating 15 news jobs for the area and giving those looking to get away for a weekend or staycation an affordable option in the pretty town.

It was Travelodge’s 571st site in the UK and Ireland and Travelodge South West Regional Director Gary Steele explained how he thinks the planned Cornish expansion will benefit the region.

“Our new 571st Travelodge hotel is a great addition and is ideally located to help attract new visitors to the area. This is great news for the local economy as previous research suggests that on average, Travelodge customers will spend double their room price with local businesses during their stay. The Cornwall economy is growing at pace, and as the UK’s top staycation destination, visitor numbers are increasing year-on-year, however there is still a shortage of good quality accommodation at a great value price. Therefore, to meet this growing consumer demand, we are actively looking for hotel sites. This proposed expansion programme could boost Travelodge’s portfolio to 15 hotels in Cornwall and create around 160 new jobs.”

Potential new locations include popular tourist towns such as Bude, Falmouth, Looe/Fowey/ Newquay, Penzance, Truro and St Ives. Travelodge is currently scouting out sites in these areas and hopes to begin expanding its presence as soon as the perfect locations have been found.
