Travelodge has announced it’s preparing to splash out £100m on building more sites near major conference centres.
Travelodge is targeting the lucrative business market by ploughing more money into new sites near major UK conference centres, offering budget accommodation to its professional clients across the country.
Its team has already found more than 10 locations across Britain, ranging from London’s Olympia to Glasgow’s SEC Centre, where large conventions and meetings are held. Travelodge is “actively looking” for the perfect sites to open a new hotel in these areas. It’s looking to become an even more dominant presence across the UK by appealing not just to tourists but to those on business trips by offering inexpensive and conveniently located places to stay.
The announcement follows the opening of its newest site; a 68-room hotel situated conveniently close to the Telford International Conference Centre. The hotel franchise now has locations close to 20 of the most popular conference and events centres in the UK, but is keen to capitalise on the success of its business focused sites by opening even more.
Travelodge is looking for third party investors to help finance the ambitious expansion plans and hopes to begin construction of the new locations as soon as possible. Other locations the hotel franchise is looking to capitalise on include the ACC Liverpool & Echo Arena, Coventry’s Ricoh Arena and the Queen Elizabeth Centre in London.
The expansion would create more than 300 brand new jobs in towns and cities across the UK, with a range of roles including housekeepers, caterers, reception staff and management positions on offer. With more than 567 sites spanning the country and the Republic of Ireland, Travelodge sees more than 19 million customers every year stay in its affordable and comfortable rooms.
