Travelodge creates buzz with bee hotel

Travelodge has opened its first ever hotel for bees in Telford to raise awareness of the important insects.
Travelodge has been lending its support to an important conservation project in the town of Telford, which aims to protect the town’s declining bee population.
The Telford Town Park Bee Project, which began in February, was launched to try and make the town aware of just how important the stripy insects are to the environment. The worthy project was funded by the Parks for People’s Lottery and aims to be completed by Spring 2019, but support from local businesses, like Travelodge, have been vital in raising local awareness of the mission.
The hotel franchise donated a specially made ‘bee hotel’, which was crafted from red cedar wood and decorated with a special bee friendly paint. With 5 floors, it’s got room for around 60,000 precious honeybee guests and Travelodge worked with expert beekeeper Alison Wakeman to ensure the design was just right.
Bee enthusiast Wakeman said that it was a great honour to work with Travelodge on the project and explained why it’s so important.
"I am buzzing that Travelodge has opened its first Bee Hotel in Telford. This year, the town is celebrating its 50th anniversary so it is a great gift that will keep giving. This opening will help to raise awareness of how essential honeybees are to our environment. They are one of the world’s most important pollinator of food crop and support one third of the food that we consume every day. Therefore we all need to work together to support our bee population."
