The Zip Yard has been helping an Irish journalist on her quest to wear neglected items in her wardrobe.

Irene O’Brien discovered that, like many women, she found herself complaining that she had nothing to wear while staring into an overstuffed closet. So, she set herself a task; to wear everything in her wardrobe at least once and only keep the things she truly loved.

Calling the challenge ‘The Closet Project’, O’Brien quickly discovered items of clothing she’d forgotten about and fell in love again. However, some of the items in her collection needed a bit of TLC before they could hit the streets. This was where clothing franchise The Zip Yard stepped in to help.

Dublin’s St Anne Street franchise provided expert advice on how to alter or restyle items to give them a fresh look, as well as general repairs to zips, buttons and stains and letting out seams on items that had become slightly too snug.

In a fantastic display of creativity, the franchise was even able to breathe new life into a vintage 70s bridesmaid dress that was gifted to O’Brien by her mother-in-law. Instead of the too-long, unflattering garment it had started out as, The Zip Yard was able to transform it, creating a 60’s style shift dress and an A-line skirt from the leftover material. And O’Brien encourages others to do the same, saying that small alterations or repairs can often make a product feel brand new again.

Founded in 2005, The Zip Yard specialise in fast turn arounds and skilled tailoring and alterations for all kinds of garments. Whether it’s a dropped hem, a special occasion outfit that needs a tweak or finding a new lease of life for a well-loved item, The Zip Yard’s franchises have the skills to make your clothes perfect for you.
