Subway overhauls its menu for October

Sandwich franchise Subway has decided to shake up its menu ahead of the festive season, introducing new products and menu categories.
The Mega Meat sub, Cheesy Pepperoni sub and Flamin’ Hot Doritos are three new additions to the menu, adding a spin on popular favourites to bring more spice and heat. The Mega Meat sub combines Subway’s legendary Meatball Marinara with an Italian BMT to create a combo of ham, pepperoni, salami and beef meatballs, topped with the brand’s signature marinara sauce.
But the biggest change is the introduction of a new plant-based menu, which expands Subway’s vegan offerings to appeal to vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and those looking to reduce their meat consumption in general. This comes after the success of Subway’s Meatless Marinara sub, which recently won Best Vegan Sandwich at PETA’s 2020 Vegan Food Awards, according to a statement from the franchise.

In another first, customers can also now order any of their favourite subs as a salad or wrap, with extra greens and veggies, and upgrade their meals to add a regular drink, cookie or packet of crisps.
“Fans now have more choice to customise their mealtimes and satisfy their hunger,” says a spokesperson. “With all 6-inch subs, including two delicious plant-based options, now available to order as a wrap or salad, fans of the hugely popular Meatless Meatball Marinara or the newly named Plant Patty now have more choice than ever before.”
Subway has used the refresh to relook at its packaging too, and reduce single plastic consumption. Plastic salad bowls and lids have been replaced with a more sustainable cardboard box option. According to Subway, this will remove 461 tonnes of single use plastic from its supply chain across the UK and Ireland.
