Subway launches meatless meatballs

Subway has rolled out a trail of its famous meatball marinara sub – but this time, without any of the animal products in it …

Sandwich franchise Subway is known for many of its delicious subs, but perhaps the most famous is its delicious ‘Meatball Marinara’ offering. However, the rich and tasty treat cannot be enjoyed by those who choose to avoid meat and dairy – until now, that is.

Following a successful rollout across the US earlier this year and the success of the Vegan patty here on our shores, Subway has announced that it’s going to be introducing a ‘Meatless Meatball Marinara’ option for customers in the UK.

For now, the delicious vegan-friendly option will be rolled out across stores in Birmingham and Manchester. However, if the new option is received well, it’s likely to be extended to all Subway stores across the UK in the coming weeks and months.

Speaking about the new offering, a spokesperson from Subway said:

“We are currently trialling an exciting new vegan product, our Meatless Meatball Marinara, in a number of stores across the UK. We are hoping to introduce these nationwide early next year, so keep your eyes peeled and we’ll let you know once we have more information.”

A fun campaign has been rolled out across the UK, teasing the arrival of the ‘Magnificent Meatless Meatball Marinara’. It’s not clear if Subway will also be introducing a dairy-free cheese for vegans to top their subs with, but the rest of the treat, from the bread to the sauce to the filling, will be totally plant based.

Subway also hasn’t released a list of the stores where the trial will be taking place, so keep your eyes peeled for the meatless meatballs in your local store if you’re in Birmingham or Manchester.
