A quarter of Subway’s UK stores have reopened for business with additional safety measures in place.

600 of the sandwich franchise’s locations reopened their stores on 12th May for delivery and collection, with new measures that will keep its Sandwich Artists, delivery drivers and customers safe. New fixtures and signs to support social distancing have been introduced in-store to keep customers and staff as separate as possible. Enhanced hygiene protocols have been rolled out across Subway’s network, and PPE has been secured to reduce risks in every possible way. It will allow franchise owners to reopen their stores and generate some income again, while keeping their workers safe.

Colin Hughes, Country Director for Subway UK and Ireland, commented on the phased reopening of Subway’s network.

“Everybody in our Subway family and the wider communities they serve, has shown great resilience in adapting to these challenging times that we currently find ourselves in. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support in anticipation of this next phase of our gradual reopening, which will enable us to continue to serve our communities and frontline workers, who have helped us all so much in recent weeks.”

He explained how the new measures will help Subway’s network adapt to the new situation.

“We have slowly and safely introduced a new store operating framework that will be rolling out across stores to protect guests, Sandwich Artists, delivery drivers and our suppliers. The weeks and months ahead will continue to be challenging for everyone and Subway will play its part in supporting the new normal whatever that may look and feel like.”

During their shutdown, many of Subway’s franchise owners donated sandwiches to local communities and key workers – more than a quarter of a million, in fact. And to keep our nation’s heroes fed, the franchise is offering 25% to all NHS staff during the pandemic. What’s more, any orders made using third party delivery apps over £10 will qualify for free delivery for every customer.
