Once an elite sport largely reserved for fee-paying schools, SportsCool’s recent efforts to make fencing accessible to all children was detailed in a recent Yahoo! Sports article.

In Amy’s words, “Blackburn headquartered SportsCool, a specialist provider of sports education for primary schools across the UK, is offering youngsters fencing sessions and is finding them increasingly popular among children and their parents from all backgrounds. Fencing has traditionally been linked to fee-paying schools and has had a reputation in some circles in the past for being elitist, but SportsCool’s approach is making it accessible to all children from all backgrounds.”

According to SportsCool Director Lee Lysons, fencing is the perfect sport for building crucial life skills like “strategic thinking and discipline” while still burning off “plenty of energy” and promoting “a healthy, active lifestyle”. Of the sports franchise’s push to get fencing on its menu of offerings across the UK, Lee said, “Fencing is a very strategic sport, almost like a physical form of chess. It teaches children to think for themselves and to analyse [how] other people think.”

Fencing is also great for improving balance, posture and coordination, sharpening reflexes and building concentration skills. Plus, as Lee said, “The fencing sessions we organise are also great fun. The children really love them and throw themselves into the activity. We’re finding them increasingly popular. Who knows, perhaps we are starting a future Olympian on their journey to a gold medal. Wouldn’t that be great?”

If you’re interested in joining SportsCool’s growing network, offering sessions in everything “from fencing and archery to ultimate frisbee, curling and tri-golf”, you can become a franchisee for an initial investment of £24,995.
