US branches of the Snappy Tomato Pizza chain have joined forces with Girl Scout groups to help them sell cookies.

Every January, 1.7 million girls take part in the famous campaign to sell ‘Girl Scout cookies’ to friends and neighbours. The proceeds are then used to fund scouting programmes across the country. But, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, girl scouts have been forced to suspend their cookie-selling efforts halfway through the season.

When Snappy Pizza branches in Southwest Ohio, Southeast Indiana and Northern Kentucky got wind of the girl scouts’ misfortune, they decided to take action. The pizza franchise businesses bought 200 cases of Girl Scout cookies themselves, and gave a packet away with every pizza order over $25. In total, the takeaway business will shift more than 2,400 boxes of delicious cookies. This will give the Girl Scouts the money they need to keep running fun programmes, and their customers a free gift.

Andy Ritter, Director of Marketing at Snappy Pizza, said:

"The moment we heard about the Girl Scouts' dilemma with their inability to sell cookies door-to-door we knew we needed to help… The leadership attributes fostered through the Girl Scouts programme are the same qualities that make for a good community citizen — perhaps one of these young ladies will be our next Snappy Tomato employee or franchisee?"

Haleigh McGraw, Communications Director at Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road, praised the franchise:

"It is with great appreciation that we thank the teams at Snappy Tomato Pizza for purchasing cases of our Girl Scout cookies, and it is outstanding to see Snappy Tomato pay it forward by sharing our boxes of cookies as gifts to their patrons. Thinking "out-of-the-cookie-box" with actions of caring such as these are the essence of what we strive to instil in our young ladies. Our Girl Scout sisterhood thanks Snappy Tomato for setting such a wonderful example."
