Shuttercraft praises its self-employed dads

To celebrate Father’s day, Shuttercraft celebrated some of its franchisees that are balancing family-life with parenting.

Life as a self-employed dad isn’t easy, even under ‘normal’ circumstances. But, as Shuttercraft reminded us in a recent blog post celebrating father’s day, many of its franchisees have overcome significant challenges to build a business.

Being a franchisee for a major home improvement and construction franchise has many benefits - one of which is an improved work-life balance. But, between lockdowns, rapidly changing rules, and worries about the economy, this balance has been put to the test.

Franchisees working in the home improvement and construction sector have been seeing record levels of interest. Home improvement has been one of the few sectors to grow throughout the pandemic, adding to the challenges for franchisees across the country.

Yet many of Shuttercraft’s self-employed dads have risen to the challenge. One franchisee, Martin Jones, had to balance his career with the challenges of homeschooling.

“During the month of May, I have had to home-school my children 2.5 days (plus Sunday) of each week, which has resulted in only 12.5 survey days during the month,” he revealed. “Homeschooling and phoning clients to book appointments has been a challenge – but I have a system and I’m going with it.”

Charlie, a franchisee operating in the Nottingham and Derbyshire area, recently recruited his son William, who had been struggling to find an apprenticeship, into the team.

“Working at Shuttercraft, he’s learnt how to run the accounts, to do some marketing, how to manage people, how to recruit, and all in his first five years of employment. At 23, he’s in an amazing position to set up his own business with some amazing experience.”
