Blossom Home Care, the mould-breaking industry disruptor that’s showing the care sector how to up its game, has scooped yet another award to put in its bulging trophy cabinet.

Roberta Chapman, owner of Blossom Home Care Durham, has won the Rising Star Award in the inaugural Women Achieving Greatness In Care Awards, better known as The Wags.

Her achievement puts her among the crême-de-la-crême of the care profession – something the judges of the prestigious awards found all the more remarkable because she’d only recently joined the sector.

“Twenty months ago, Roberta hadn’t even worked in care,” said the judges, “but now it’s hard to imagine her anywhere else.

“A strong, communicative leader, she keeps people at the heart of her work and is more than willing to roll her sleeves up and lead by example.

“She is insightful, knowledgeable and passionate about elevating the status of carers in society… a true rising star.”

The judges were looking for examples of leadership and innovation and the potential to become trailblazers of the future, and felt they’d found that in Roberta.

Presented with her award at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Bankside in London, Robert worked in retail and for a local charity before buying her Blossom franchise.

“It was an honour just to be nominated for the Rising Star award, never mind winning it,” says Roberta.

But she’s getting used to it.

She won the Registered Manager award at the Blossom Awards in October and was shortlisted for the Frontline Leader award in this year’s Great British Care Awards.

“Blossom Home Care is a brilliant brand that stands head and shoulders above the rest,” she says.

“The track is there to run on. All the systems and processes are available to you, as is all the support and help you need.

“It’s a great business that offers lots of rewards and great potential. You just need to use the expertise that’s available to you.

Robert adds that her aim is to grow the business, develop her client and carer base, and keep on winning awards for what she does.

Roberta’s triumph is the latest in a string of awards that Blossom and its co-founder, Fiona Leggott, have won – mostly in recognition of Blossom’s mission to offer a true alternative to residential care.

“This is the vindication of our unique approach to home care services: putting the client’s needs at the absolute forefront to deliver truly personalised care,” says Fiona.
