Recognition Express has announced the winner of its national school competition for BRAKE Road Safety Week.

Children across the UK aged four to 11 were tasked with designing a banner to encourage drivers to slow down around their school. The contest runs annually in collaboration with road safety charity BRAKE, picking up a different idea each year. 2020 designs were based around the theme, ‘No Need To Speed’.

Once the judges had considered the hundreds of entries submitted, they chose 13 winners, including nine-year-old Daisy Burton from Broomfields Junior School. The B2B franchise awarded the lucky prize recipients a personalised trophy, as well as large banners printed with their design to display outside their schools.

Alan Stone, Director of Recognition Express’s Warrington branch, said,

"It was such a shame that I couldn’t go into the school to present Daisy with her trophy and banner in person, but of course that wasn’t possible this year with the lockdown. I was very impressed with her design and I am sure her work will be much admired as the banner is displayed outside the school.”

Despite the challenges of 2020, the franchise business was keen to run its yearly competition:

“Whilst our cashflow is tight as a result of the lockdown, we believe road safety is very important, and are committed to keeping people safe. Our relationship with BRAKE is long standing and we didn’t want to let them down this year.”

Alan added,

“Our competition is a fantastic opportunity to engage primary school children and help establish good road safety sense for years to come. I hope that our competition helped to restore a sense of normality for the children this term."
