A care assistant has been commended after making a special effort to ensure his client was able to have a fun night out.
Kristian, who works for Radfield Home Care’s Harrogate, Wetherby & North Yorkshire branch, has been caring for client Dan for the past 18 months. They met after Dan had sought care from six other organisations, none of which were able to properly fulfil his needs. But when he approached care franchise Radfield Home Care, he immediately clicked with “jokey” Kristian.
The branch’s father-and-son franchisees, Matthew and Jonathan Nutting, explained:
“Dan wasn’t looking for much, he was just looking for a carer who treated him like an adult and promoted his fierce independence but also someone that he could confide in and trust.”
When Dan learned that a Kenny Rogers tribute act was performing locally, he was disappointed he wouldn’t be able to go. It finished after his bedtime care call and would last for longer than the timeframe he was normally allocated. But carer Kristian was determined to find a way for Dan to attend, and worked with his manager to reorganise the week’s care calls and work late so they could stay for the whole concert.
Dan even arranged for them to enjoy a meal out first. The branch’s franchisees said:
“What followed was a typical boys’ night out when Dan got to feel like ‘one of the boys’ and not limited by disability – a good curry, a couple of pints and a cracking night at the gig.”
Kristian has been labelled an “exceptional” carer, and has revealed how much he enjoys his job at Radfield Home Care:
“Visiting Dan on a care call on my way to football on a weekend no longer feels like ‘work’ to me.”
The franchisees continued:
“For Dan, he has found someone that doesn’t make him feel like he is receiving care, but rather a professional friend who gives him the support he needs to live his life the way he wants. Kristian upholds the values that we seek in all of our carers. Carers like Kristian are the very reason why we are able to say we offer ‘Exceptional Care by Exceptional People’.”
