Promedica24 helps client get her life back

Promedica24 has shared how one of its clients went from depressed and dependent to thriving in a year with its help.
Promedica24 has shared the inspiring story of how one of its clients turned her life around in just 12 months, thanks to the support of her live-in carer.
Sarah Jane Pollard struggled with depression, which made it difficult for her to properly manage her diabetes. As a result, she ended up in a diabetic coma and spent eight days in intensive care. After she was left hospital, Sarah’s mental health caused her to rely on alcohol too much and her difficult behaviour meant she could no longer stay with her mother in Blackpool.
Sarah was temporarily moved to a dementia care home to keep her safe, but social services and her healthcare team knew it wasn’t the right place for her. That’s where Promedica24 stepped in. Sarah’s social worker found her somewhere to live and arranged for a live-in carer from the home and senior care franchise to come and help her out.
After carer Karolina moved in, she began helping Sarah with everything from taking her medication to cooking healthy meals every day. She also gave Sarah companionship and made sure she took part in fun activities every day. Once Sarah’s year-long package was up, her mental health had improved so much that her mental health team felt that she was safe enough to live alone.
Sarah revealed that moments like her birthday and Halloween were made special by Karolina, who said:
“I will miss Sarah immensely, but I’m extremely proud to know that I’ve had such a positive impact on her life and helped her to rebuild her confidence and ability to look after herself again.”
Gary Derbyshire, Promedica24’s regional partner for North Yorkshire & Lancashire, added:
“I am proud to have played my part and it only goes to show that when a person is at such a low point in life that the right sort of care can change a person’s life for the better. This helps everyone and this shows that 24/7 live-in care at home can be a truly life enhancing experience.”
