Pieminister pairs with Tapestry brewery and GENeco to create a carbon-neutral beer

The beer, which is a limited-edition pale ale, is produced partially from Pieminister pastry off-cuts straight from the Brentry factory.

Pieminister is always looking for new ways to innovate and reduce waste, particularly since the brand set its ambitious sustainability goals for 2025 back in 2020. This new beer is no exception to the restaurant franchise’s high environmental standards. In the words of Martin Booth for Bristol 24/7, the beer, which is dubbed “Pie-oneer”, “has been brewed by Tapestry in St Philip’s Marsh using pie crust trimmings from the Pieminister factory in Brentry”.

Pie-oneer is proudly brewed by Tapestry using water-efficient methods and British hops, and the brewery and pie manufacturer both work in partnership with GENeco Avonmouth to remove the carbon associated with beer production and recycle inedible food waste. This beer is now available for customers to try at two different locations - Pieminister Stokes Croft and Pieminister Broad Quay. Plus, 10p of every purchase of this beer will go towards Props, a charity supporting adults with learning difficulties.

Richard McCluskey, Head of Waste & Resources at GENeco, spoke on the creation of Pie-oneer and all that it represented. He said, “[Pie-oneer] represents the collaboration we believe is required between businesses and organisations with shared sustainability values to reduce their impact on the environment and help achieve net-zero climate goals.”
