Minuteman Press to produce children’s face mask designs

Minuteman Press will create police face masks designed by children in Worcestershire.

A competition thought up by one local police community support officer (PCSO) has encouraged children in Redditch, north-east Worcestershire, to draw a colourful design to enhance face masks. The Redditch Safer Neighbourhood Teams contest judged hundreds of entries and revealed its winners last week.

Konor Nyiro from Matchborough First School was awarded first prize but was unfortunately unable to attend school on Monday when his design was unveiled in a school ceremony. But nine-year-old Maddison Briney was able to celebrate winning second place in person. She even got the chance to have her photo taken with local police workers Inspector Lee Page, PCSO Gemma Bosco-Woods and Sgt. Dave Roberts.

Now, it’s up to Minuteman Press to recreate the pair’s colourful designs on a selection of face masks and distribute them to the police service. Inspector Lee Page explained how the competition came about:

“The idea for the competition came from PCSO Bosco-Woods, who thought it would be a great opportunity to help normalise the wearing of face coverings for children and to build relationships between police and young people.”

Lee also described his reasoning for selecting the final winners.

“I chose the winners because of the messages they conveyed, highlighting the importance of community, friendship and kindness which have all been crucial in helping everyone to get through what has been an incredibly difficult year.

“I would like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone who took part; we were overwhelmed by the level of interest.”
