Metro Rod Cambridge sponsors local hero awards to give thanks to amazing people in the community.
Metro Rod Cambridge’s second annual Ely Hero Awards has been recognising local heroes for their tireless work.
The awards, which are the brainchild of Metro Rod’s business development manager Naomi Sherwood, were set up to shine a light on those in Ely and the surrounding area who are truly inspirational. There were 10 different categories in which local heroes could be nominated, including Smiliest Server, for those who are always cheerful in customer facing roles, Neighbour of the Year and Best Teacher.
Sherwood thanked everyone who had made the awards happen and gave her congratulations to the winners and nominees. “With a wonderfully inspiring, emotional Ely Hero Awards 2018 at a close, organisers Metro Rod Cambridge with fantastic organisational assistance from Infiniti Graphics and Sadie Finch would like to thank the community for the incredible support of the event during the search for the Heroes of Ely and the District.”
She noted that there had been a 42% rise in nominations this year, showing that despite the awards being in just their second year, they’re clearly something the local community wants to get behind.
The top prize – The Ely Hero Award – was awarded to the person nominees and judges felt had truly done something exceptional. The deserving winner for 2018 was Ruth Marley, the driving force behind innovative community project Re-Imagination, which works with local schools and youth organisations to use recycled materials as works of art.
The Metro Rod sponsored awards also supported its Charity of the Year, Steel Bones, which works with amputees of all ages to help them adjust and live a happy, healthy life after the loss of a limb.
