Metro Rod has organised a charity run to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, affects around 850,000 people in the UK and most families will have been touched by the memory-robbing illness. That’s why staff at Metro Rod Hull, Lincoln and Peterborough (HLP) have come together to organise a charity 5k run to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The charity run will be held on September 1st and will take runners through the picturesque Willingham Woods, allowing them to enjoy plenty of nature and wildlife as they raise money for the worthy cause.
Maria Godfrey, one of the organisers from Metro Rod’s HLP franchise, explained why she’d been motivated to set up the event. “We are doing it in aid of Alzheimer’s Society, as here at the office a lot of us have been affected one way or another by it, so we are wanting to raise as much as we can for them.”
The event is open to all ages and registration is free, with a £1 minimum donation for anyone who’d like to participate. To keep the little ones entertained, a scavenger hunt will be set up along the route to let them discover more about the woodlands. After the event, there will be a cake sale and raffle, with fantastic prizes that have been generously donated by local businesses.
Staff at Metro Rod are keen to get as many people involved in the event as possible, with Maria encouraging local businesses to nominate team members to run for them. “It’s going to be an interesting run, [but] the muddier you get the better!”
