The expert cleaning franchise recently shared a blog to the Merry Maids website focused on DIY at-home cleaning hacks.

At Merry Maids, the entire network understands that to its customers, a squeaky-clean home is the dream - but the cleaning franchise wants its blog readers and followers to know that this squeaky-clean result doesn’t have to come with a load of expenses attached. As Merry Maids said, “Stubborn stains, grimy appliances, and no solution in sight? Here are some cleaning hacks that you can do at home to get your house looking ship-shape in no time.”

Hack number one was focused on cleaning grimy oven doors. Merry Maids recommended using a dishwasher tablet: “Usually, if you lower your oven door, you can look for a clip at each top corner that will slide off quite easily if you press it firmly and slide it towards you with one finger [...] Once you’ve done this, you can actually lift the entire glass panel of your oven door out! Now, you can place it down and make it much easier to clean.” Having removed the panel, you can apply dishwasher tablets directly to the glass, “and along with a little hot water, use them as a sort of rubber and completely erase all that nasty dirt and grime”.

Hack number two was all about destroying limescale build-up on the shower head. Merry Maids let readers know that Coca Cola was the answer. In the words of the franchise, “Simply buy some cheap non-branded cola from your local supermarket, and then place your showerhead into a deep plastic bag. Then, fill the bag with cola until the showerhead is completely submerged. Seal the bag with a clip or string and leave it hanging somewhere safe where it will be untouched. Leave it for a few hours and the acidic cola will actually gradually dissolve the limescale build-up!”

The final hack was a reminder to customers that bicarbonate of soda is 100% a cleaner’s best friend. As Merry Maids said, “You might not think it, but the humble bicarbonate of soda has a multitude of uses within the home for keeping things clean.” It can remove tannin stains, absorb and remove odours, restore shine to sterling silver, and much more.
