Kumon celebrates second-generation franchisee
Sophie Cole, writer
Kumon franchisee Raquel Capuano has followed in her mother’s footsteps by setting up her very own Kumon centre.
The education franchise entered Raquel’s life when she was just 13 after she enrolled for classes at her local centre. A few years later, after seeing what a positive impact it had on her child, Raquel’s mother decided to open her very own Kumon franchise.
Raquel spent a number of years working alongside her mother, helping the children of her local community in Arnold, Maryland. It allowed her to learn the importance of a great education and showed her how rewarding it is to help people with something so vital to their future.
Now, Raquel is about to step up and become the new owner and lead instructor of Kumon’s Math and Reading Centre in Arnold. She’ll work alongside her mum, who still finds the time to spread her love of learning to local children.
Speaking about the exciting move, Raquel said:
As a former Kumon Student and Assistant, I know firsthand that this program truly helps students unlock their full academic potential. I'm excited to get back to my roots in creating confident self-learners who aren't afraid to tackle any challenge they face.
As an instructor, Raquel will spend her days helping children get to grips with Maths and English skills that will give them a fundamental base for the future. Whether they’re struggling and falling behind, or need an extra challenge their school cannot provide, Kumon offers specially developed worksheets that give them a push in the right direction.
Raquel added:
I hope to foster an environment where students come knowing that they will succeed that day. I'm thrilled that I have an opportunity to continue my career in helping others, and I'm excited to get started.
