Jackson Fire and Security emphasises the importance of monitored fire alarm systems

The fire and security management franchise recently shared expert insights into just how crucial a monitored fire alarm system is for the safe operation of a facility like a care home.
Once an alarm is triggered, the fire and rescue service responding must be able to act as quickly as possible. This is particularly crucial in a care home facility. If a fire were to break out within a care home, it’s unlikely that all residents would be able to escape quickly. They would need the support of staff, particularly if they were frail, had health conditions, or required extra support. According to Jackson Fire and Security, this is exactly why checking fire alarms in care homes on a regular basis is extremely important.
The security franchise explained that, unfortunately, not all care homes comply with regulations, though the dangers of not doing so are huge. “There have been several care home fires in the past year alone. Some were small and could be quickly contained. [At a Hampshire care home], a fire in the laundry room led to 31 people needing to be quickly evacuated.
“The fast response from fire crews helped ensure no one was injured and the fire only damaged one room. But several other fires have managed to spread more quickly and go on to cause considerable damage.”
Care home staff can’t be everywhere at once, monitoring everything. Accidents happen, and fires are started unexpectedly. That’s why care homes must be connected to the fire brigade through a monitored fire alarm, as highlighted in British Standards (produced by the BSI Group). Jackson Fire and Security also said, “The standard BS 5839-1:2017 highlights the need for a triggered fire alarm to immediately send an automatic signal to the fire service. The standard refers to how critical it is for early attendance from them in locations [like care homes].”
As an NSI Gold approved company, Jackson Fire and Security can provide fire alarm monitoring and ensure that all care home residents are safe and protected in the event of a fire emergency.
