InXpress Coventry opens sister branch through its 20-year-old star apprentice.
InXpress Coventry has been celebrating the opening of its sister branch, InXpress Stour Valley, which will be headed up by its 20-year-old protegee Jack Fisher. Once the star apprentice of owners David and Liz Murray, Fisher was recently promoted to co-owner and director of the Murrays’ second franchise.
Fisher joined the business thanks to a chance encounter with David, who knew he had been looking for an apprenticeship after completing his A-levels and encouraged him to apply to his InXpress branch. Despite having no prior knowledge of what the logistics franchise did, after the meeting Fisher was interested and joined the Murrays’ business.
Since setting up their business in 2008, the Murrays had seen their InXpress franchise quickly expand. David explained why he chose the company to begin his franchising journey.
“I already had a successful consultancy business and I looked at InXpress and loved the model. InXpress provide global shipping solutions to local SMEs. We deliver service improvement and reduced cost for our customers.”
By 2015, they needed an extra pair of hands and loved the idea of hiring an apprentice. They could train them specifically for their business needs while also helping a young person achieve a formal qualification at the same time.
Fisher learned all about the business, covering a wide range of business skills including telephone calls, customer service and accountancy, which helped him support David with the franchise’s invoicing. When his apprenticeship drew to a close, Fisher knew he’d need to work out a plan for the next stage of his life.
However, the young employee was stunned when the Murrays offered him a chance to become co-owner and Director of their second franchise. Liz Murray said:
“We wanted to grow and we didn’t want to let go of Jack. Buying a second franchise was a win-win! We keep Jack, who runs our business, plus we expand, whilst helping him to grow – he is now Director of his own limited company.”
Fisher thanked his co-owners for the incredible support they have given him throughout his time at InXpress and as the two franchises prepare to move into large premises and recruit an additional new office team member, he outlined his dreams for the future. The logistics and shipping franchise regularly rewards its best performing franchises, or ‘Top Guns’, and Fisher is keen to become one as soon as possible. He said:
“You have to aim high, don’t you! Coventry have been a Top Gun franchise several times already and I’m aiming to join them with [my franchise] Stour Valley.”
