Home Instead hosts ‘coffee rockers’ event

Home Instead Senior Care has launched a new way of helping elderly people in the Rochdale area to socialise – and the first event was very successful.

The senior care franchise came up with the idea for the monthly event as a way to combat rising loneliness and isolation among elderly people. It reached out to its service users and the wider elderly community to try and engage those who may not have otherwise had a reason or a way to leave their homes. By making the event free, Home Instead was able to include as many people as possible, allowing them to meet new friends and have a chat with likeminded people.

There was entertainment from professional singer Ian Jenkins, who sang classic tunes from the 1960s. It proved to be a hit with the crowd, as many people ended up singing and dancing along with him, including some of Home Instead’s staff. Once everyone had finished the sing along there was a tasty buffet lunch for all 60 guests to enjoy, which was generously donated by a local catering business and Tesco.

Local Mayor, Mohammed Zaman, also popped in to the event and spent time chatting to attendees and staff from Home Instead.

Owner of the Rochdale franchise, David Bradshaw, said: “We are over the moon with the success of our first monthly Coffee Rockers event. Over 60 people came to the event and we were honoured to have Mayor Mohammed Zaman attend.”
