Heritage Healthcare raises year-round elderly loneliness awareness

In a recent blog post, the franchise stressed the point that elderly loneliness is not just for Christmas, it’s a problem 365 days a year (but thankfully, there are ways to take action).

Heritage Healthcare, from one end of the network to the other, is passionate about quality home care for anyone that needs it. Many of the people that do need this kind of care are elderly, and loneliness among the old-aged population is a real issue, often highlighted at Christmas but ignored January through November. In its recent blog post, the home care franchise cautioned against this kind of Christmas-focused attitude.

Heritage Healthcare said, “For many of us, the festive season is a time of celebration spent with family and friends. However, it also highlights the issue of loneliness that is affecting the older generation. Elderly loneliness is not just for Christmas; hundreds of thousands of elderly and disabled people are lonely and cut off from society.”

With Age UK reporting that more than 2 million people in England who are over the age of 75 live alone, many elderly people within communities up and down the UK struggle. While the festive season can be a particularly difficult time for people on their own, loneliness will impact their everyday life, too. It doesn’t necessarily fade away on January 1st.

To combat this loneliness epidemic, Heritage Healthcare has relaunched its Combating Elderly Loneliness campaign, which includes the sharing of information and advice on how to support older people within your local area. The franchise’s goal “is to raise awareness of elderly loneliness and bring people together”.
