Harry Ramsden will be opening its first branch in Asia as it sets to open a Malaysian location later this year.
Fish and chips franchise Harry Ramsden will be opening its first ever branch in Asia this year as it prepares to open at the Resorts World, Genting. The exclusive resort, which sits in the city of Genting Highlands, Malaysia, is home to many popular tourist attractions and welcomes around 26 million visitors every single year, making it a potentially lucrative spot for Harry Ramsden to open a branch.
The new location will trade under the name ‘The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden’ and was created especially for the well-loved tourist spot, to evoke the experience of a traditional English pub. As well as a sit-in restaurant that has a quaint British atmosphere, customers will be able to grab a takeaway from the built-in counter and enjoy fresh, tasty fish and chips as they take a stroll around the resort.
CEO of Harry Ramsden, Tom Crowley, said that the launch signals the start of an exciting period of international expansion.
“The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden will particularly thrill local Malaysian and international guests looking for a real English pub experience. At Resorts World, we’re offering a fantastically classic British pub menu, bursting with tasty dishes including our world-famous fish and chips and served in surroundings which symbolise everything that is great about both Britain and Harry Ramsden.”
EVP of Leisure and Hospitality of Resorts World Genting, Dato’ Edward Holloway, said:
“Resorts World Genting attracts visitors from all over Asia and we have introduced many international brands here at SkyAvenue. When we thought of fish & chips from the UK, we thought of Harry Ramsden. We very quickly communicated with them to strike a deal to open The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden. We are proud to say that this is the first and only fish & chips shop of its kind in Resorts World Genting and Malaysia.”
