Former Kumon assistant becomes a franchisee

A former assistant at Kumon in Waipahu, Hawaii hopes to inspire others with her new education franchise business.
Kumon is a multinational educational institution with a huge global presence. The education franchise has been using the Kumon Method in its practice for over 50 years and in over 49 countries.
Michilynn Yoro-Roque was just 16 years old when her best friend asked if she’d like to replace her at her part-time job. When she decided to say yes to the assistant role at the local Kumon centre, little did she know that it would shape her life for many years to come.
While staying at Kumon year after year, she developed a real passion for education. So, after she’d returned from college, she started to consider opening her very own centre.
After researching the opportunity and learning of its fantastic business potential, she decided to give it the go-ahead. Now, she is delighted to be able to inspire children in her area and help them achieve their full potential.
Michilynn Yoro-Roque, the owner and instructor of Kumon Waipahu said:
"After years of college and training in education and management, I found myself wanting more than just a nine-to-five job.
"A lot of my work ethic has been developed through Kumon and the support I've had in the classroom environment, and I can't wait to translate that to my students as well."
When she was searching for more information about the business opportunity, she received extensive support from the franchise team. Now, she is excited to positively impact learners in the Waipahu community.
"My vision is for my Kumon centre to be a safe place of learning for students and to serve as a positive influence within the Waipahu community.
"My approach to education focuses on developing the whole student – not just improving basic academic skills."
