FASTSIGNS Dallas has switched its operational power to make valuable face shields for local hospitals and police.
As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect businesses across the globe, one location of sign franchise FASTSIGNS has found a way to keep its staff busy and help fight the spread. While its team can usually be found crafting marketing equipment and signs for local businesses, the recent crisis has challenged them in a whole new way.
FASTSIGNS Dallas has put its team to work making more than 15,000 clear face shields, a vital part of healthcare staff’s protective equipment as they treat Covid-19 patients. Many of the hospitals in the local area have appealed for businesses to help them to stay safe, so FASTSIGNS decided to step up and help. Dallas PD will also receive many of the shields, after owner Mark Glenn realised these vital frontline staff members didn’t have protection. He explained:
“We saw the need that they have and I asked \[a local officer\], ‘What are the guidelines for using the face shields?’ He said, ‘There are no guidelines, they simply don’t have any.’ That was really alarming and it really opened my eyes to hear from the guys on the front line.”
Glenn explained that he’s seen regular business drop by 80 to 90 percent, so producing these shields will keep his staff busy for a while. Even though the business will be making no profit from the kind act, the franchise is keen to do all it can to help the local community. Glenn also hopes by producing equipment to help fight the pandemic, he’ll be able to retain some of his workforce during the crisis and return to the art of sign-making once things are back to normal.
