The franchise provides signage and graphics to businesses across the UK, and recently shared its comprehensive checklist for creating a compliant space.

In the words of FASTSIGNS, “Guiding people around and through your building or campus quickly and safely is the main job of wayfinding signs and graphics, but the job isn’t complete if your signage is not fully compliant.” To create a compliant space, the sign franchise believes that you should be doing five things:

Providing clear directions: Signs and graphics “can provide navigation in emergency situations”, and to this end, all signs should be clear and consistent in terms of messaging, fonts and colours.

Classifying dangerous areas: Any area that could cause a threat to personal safety should be marked, and precaution should be advised. Caution signs can be used to “direct traffic around or safely through a highly-dangerous area”. They should be installed at eye level and be highly visible, featuring contrasting colours.

Signposting and locating exits: Labelling exits will allow people to evacuate more quickly if an emergency situation occurs, so FASTSIGNS understands that identifiable exit signs are a crucial consideration.

Signposting and locating amenities like the bathroom: As FASTSIGNS explained it, “Bold and easy-to-read bathroom signage could make all the difference in helping all guests feel comfortable in [the] environment.” Recommendations for readability and noticeability include contrasting colours, braille and tactile elements, as well as installation at a height suitable for wheelchair users.

Ensuring DDA compliance throughout: The DDA is the Disability Discrimination Act, and complying with it is a must. “From your parking area outside, to ramps and room designator signs that include braille, make wayfinding simple for everyone.”

If you’d like to franchise with the signage network that’s always looking to inform and assist its customers, you can become a FASTSIGNS franchisee for a minimum initial investment of £36,000, with franchise fees of £21,000 and a total investment cost of £120,000. You’ll join over 650 centres across 10 countries, starting a journey towards profit and franchise success. Find out more about FASTSIGNS via the company’s profile page, linked above.
