Simon Slee shines light into his life as a Fastsigns franchisee and why it’s a smart business move for other entrepreneurs.
Husband-and-wife Simon and Friderike Slee are the proud owners of Fastsigns Hammersmith. Simon has provided us some insight into his franchising journey with sign franchise Fastsigns…
Simon and Friderike wanted to find a franchise opportunity that utilised both of their skills. Leaving behind their careers in the financial services market and architecture respectively, they believed investing in Fastsigns could make use of Simon’s experience in international sales and Friderike’s ability to bring a client’s vision to life.
“I worked in Abu Dhabi in the financial markets and Friderike was a Landscape architect. Following voluntary redundancy, we decided that we would like to run our own business and franchising was an option we considered.”
When asked what sets their franchise apart from the competition, Simon said:
“I would like to think we have a customer experience that exceeds our competitors. We currently have a Net Promoter Score of 98 which we are particularly proud of. Many of our staff have been with us since the start and we are proud of our low staff attrition level.”
Simon recommends Fastsigns to other ambitious entrepreneurs because you don’t need any experience in signage to thrive as a franchisee. The business model provides all the training you need to get up and running and the business can be built around you. He does, however, suggest that franchisees need to put in lots of hard work to truly succeed in the industry.
Simon and Friderike have clearly being doing exactly that, as they have already celebrated a number of achievements. These include winning best Hammersmith Business and Best Customer Service Awards at the Hammersmith & Fulham Brilliant Business awards. As well as, being awarded “Three Best Rated” Sign Companies in London.
“I would have to say the greatest achievement is building a business that has become financially successful and consistent, enabling a comfortable lifestyle for my family.”
Simon reminds potential franchisees that no business is built overnight. You need to work hard, be resilient and avoid cutting any corners.
So what is this franchisee duo’s biggest goal over the next few years?
“We have set ambitious sales targets but more importantly we have the right team in place to see us hit those targets. Despite recent Covid hardships we are aiming to exceed £1mio annual Turnover.”
