Energie Fitness raised money for a worthy local cause by asking its members and staff to wear purple for a day.
Energie Fitness in Leighton Buzzard combined two of its campaigns to try and raise money for breast cancer research. The gym franchise honoured National Fitness Day on Wednesday 25th September in combination with the #PurplePad campaign. The latter was set up after Dean Boyle, founder of Gym Upholstery UK, lost his wife Joanne to breast cancer and decided to encourage local gyms to turn one of their chest pads (on the chest press machine) purple to raise awareness of the disease.
Darren Rossiter, manager for Energie Fitness Leighton Buzzard, explained how his branch of the fitness franchise got involved with the campaigns.
"We are working with two different campaigns National Fitness Day - which encourages more people to be more active more often, it focuses on people's mental and physical health. We will also be supporting the #PurplePad campaign. A team from Gym Upholstery will be visiting 44 different sporting facilities across the country and turning one bit of an equipment purple, for example the seat on the chest press.”
Darren also explained how the gym will be going the extra mile to raise as much money as possible for the great cause, by hosting a ‘silent’ auction online for one of its well-located parking spaces.
"We are close to the station and we have had people enquire in the past about the parking space. All the bids will be taken on social media, bidders will need to leave their contact details and their highest bid. The highest bidder will win the car parking space for one year.”
The auction aimed to raise £1,000 and, while Energie Fitness hasn’t announced how successful it was, any amount the selfless fitness franchise raises will help local people currently battling breast cancer.
