Dover Gets Its First Travelodge
Travelodge is opening its first Dover hotel in a £53 million development.
As Travelodge expands its franchise around the world, Dover is the latest place to get one of its hotels. It comes as the town is embracing a £53 million development, and the Dover locals are poised waiting for new shops and leisure outlets to open.
Dover’s new Travelodge will have 108 rooms spread over four floors, including 72 double rooms, 30 family suites and six rooms designed for people with disabilities. The hotel also features curved windows at the front giving guests great views of Dover Castle, the harbour and Eastern Docks. They can sit and enjoy watching the ferries sailing in and out of the busy port. It is also the ideal place to stay before setting sail, helping people enjoy a relaxing trip away with rooms starting at just £29 per night.
Speaking about the choice of location, Christine Cockburn, Travelodge’s new Openings Coordinator explains, “we look into areas where we feel there is a need for reasonably priced accommodation and we felt that Dover has a need and can thrive in this environment”.
This recent opening has created 30 new jobs for people in the area. It is the 13th Travelodge to open in Kent. Paula Brown, who has been with Travelodge for seven years, will act as the hotel’s manager alongside Ian Parker as assistant manager.
Paula sheds some light on how the hotel’s opening has been received, “my strong team and I have worked around the clock to get the hotel ready in time for our influx of customers over the Easter holiday. The hotel has got off to a flying start and customers are loving our unlimited breakfast menu and the Travelodge Dreamer bed. We are very excited for the hotel’s official opening at the end of the month”.
Travelodge currently has more than 560 hotels around the UK that are almost all located near restaurants and coffee shops, making them go-to travel bases for customers.
