ComputerXplorers gets School kids programming

Kids from Summerfield school in Bishop’s Stortford try their hand at coding thanks to ComputerXplorers.
ComputerXplorers hosted an educational session on micro:bit technology for local school kids to celebrate British Science Week. The session - which was ran by the education franchise free-of-charge - allowed kids to get to grips with coding. Students from Year 5 and Year 6 were supervised in writing code for a rock, paper scissors game that could be played with the technology.
A micro-bit is a thumb-sized computer that is used to introduce kids to the world of programming. In the session, LEDs were attached to the micro:bit that lit up to reveal rock, paper and scissors symbols. Using motion technology, the lights responded to student’s shaking their wrists - just like in the real version of the game.
Pupils from nearby school Hatfield Heath were also invited to take part in the workshop. Andrew Green, who led the session, said: “British Science Week encourages people of all ages to engage with science, technology, engineering and maths, and it was great to help two local schools get involved”.
