Chock Shop expands with government support

The dessert franchise has recently moved into a new manufacturing location and taken on several new staff members.

Founder Greg Shearman has been able to expand and grow Chock Shop, even during a global pandemic, through government support schemes. In Greg’s words, “Since lockdown we have expanded Chock Shop into a manufacturing hub and we now distribute our brownies across the UK to 11 franchises. These are produced in Monmouthshire using local Monmouthshire staff. We have created nine jobs from the grants and business support we have received.”

The dessert franchise began its life as an online delivery business, but when Greg decided to trial his handmade chocolate brownies at a Christmas market, he was delighted by the response, and made a business pivot. Now, Chock Shop is a firm favourite at food festivals, markets and air shows across the UK. In 2021, Chock Shop is bigger and better than ever, distributing to franchisees in Wales, Somerset, The West Midlands, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Berkshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Sussex and Yorkshire.

Greg’s government support came from the landmark Kickstart Scheme, and now Greg has created a six month work placement for two young people. Recently, Conservative MP for Monmouth, David Davies, and South Wales East Welsh Conservative Party Senedd representative, Natasha Asghar, visited Chock Shop’s manufacturing hub to meet the young trainees.

On that day, David said, “I am absolutely delighted to visit the Chock Shop today and I’d highly recommend the delicious chocolate brownies. I’m glad to see some businesses have been able to prosper during these terrible times and it was great to meet the two Kickstart trainees, Lola Cummings and Ethan Heckles. I congratulate Mr Shearman on his business venture and I look forward to visiting again very soon.”
