The tasty dine-in and delivery franchise was recently featured in the Leinster Leader, where Daragh Nolan detailed Camile Thai’s plans to display carbon footprints on dishes.
In a huge move towards increased sustainability and eco-friendliness, Camile Thai will now share the carbon footprint of each of its dishes on menus (and on dishes listed on the restaurant franchise’s website). As Daragh explained in the Leinster Leader, “This initiative by the chain is the first time in Europe that such information has been made easily accessible for guests and the general public. [Plus,] Camile are making information on how to calculate carbon footprints available to other restaurants.”
The initiative was officially launched at Camile Thai Point Square Dublin, by Founder and CEO Brody Sweeney and newly-appointed Managing Director for Ireland, Daniel Greene. The franchise worked with My Emissions to create the labels (a “leading accessible provider of food carbon labels”), which allow Camile Thai to introduce an A-E rating system to customers. At one end of the scale, “A” equals low impact. At the other end, “E” equals very high. Armed with this information, customers can make informed choices about their dinner dishes.
Daniel Greene said of the initiative, “When it comes to reducing our impact on the environment, small changes can have a huge impact. Simply swapping out beef (rated E) for tofu (rated A) in our Green Curry saves more emissions than a single train journey from London to Paris. We are all much more aware of how vital it is to make positive changes and are delighted to be able to give our guests easy access to information that can help.”
From compostable packaging to supplying nutritional information for each dish, Camile Thai has already gone above and beyond to offer its customers eco-friendly, honest options. This is just another step in the right direction for the brand, and the move is one that CEO Brody Sweeney hopes to see other restaurants making. In his words, “The addition of carbon ratings to our menu will help encourage change on an individual level, but it would also be great to see more restaurants across Ireland providing this information. We may be the first but hopefully are not the last." Find out more about Camile Thai via the franchise’s profile page, linked above.
