BP is proud to announce that a team of its employees are once again cycling the Coast to Coast challenge to raise money for MND.

For the past 10 years, BP has sent a team of its employees to Scotland to cycle a coast to coast route between Aberdeen and the Isle of Skye. It is part of the group’s goal to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Scotland in memory of one of their colleagues, Ian Bowen, who died from the progressive disease.

The route covers over 250 miles and will take the cyclists from the Isle of Skye, through the Scottish Highlands, across the Cairngorms National Park and over to Aberdeen. It is a gruelling and rewarding route, with steep inclines, long straights and beautiful scenery. The team have been training all year to take on the challenge.

69 people from BP, Shell and Conoco Philips are taking part in the cycling challenge this year and they are hoping to raise between £150,000 to £200,000, having already raised £1.2million over the last nine years. Sue Ryder, Scottish Disability Sport, VSA and Camphill School Aberdeen are the other charities that BP is raising money for this year.

Coast to Coast chairman Guy Philips is proud of the effort the BP team has put in. “As this is the 10th year of Coast to Coast, the committee has pulled out all the stops to make it as memorable as possible for all the riders and support teams”, he said. “We are returning to Skye, the starting point of the first ever Coast to Coast to relive some of that first route. Having achieved a huge amount for charity in the intervening years, Coast to Coast goes from strength to strength with new riders and alumni alike.”
