Angela’s Swim School is in the running to take home a Gravesham Business Award

A Kent-based swimming school has been nominated for a Gravesham Business Award – a commendation that recognises the success of local businesses.

Having been nominated, Angela’s Swim School will be judged by Keith Mason, Trevor Adams and Karen Du Rocher – three local successful business people. If the swimming school is successful, it will receive a free business profile in the Gravesend Messenger.

Angela’s Swim School will be invited to the gala night in spring of this year to find out if they have won the award. Alongside the other finalists, they will enjoy a meal followed by the ceremony itself.

With 20 employees, the local business helps people across North Kent learn how to swim through a safe and enjoyable programme. It offers classes for both children and adults, whether they are new to swimming or already experienced.

The lessons take place at Cecil Road Primary, Saint Joseph’s Preparatory and Cobham Hall. People of all ages are encouraged to take part to learn essential lifesaving skills and to develop more physical strength.

Manager Janice Hutton is proud to work for a company that instils the health benefits of swimming into its students. She says, “it is not a 30-minute weekly swimming lesson that families sign up for. It is the confidence, character building, positivity, dedication and determination that we have the chance to instil through our swimming lessons”.

Hutton also ascribes a huge amount of the organisation’s success to its mentors, which is likely to form a major section of their case to the award’s judges. As she explains, “as a leader I hope that each person who works for me feels valued and can feel what an important piece they play in our swim school puzzle”.

The swimming lessons have had a wide impact on the community. By teaching people how to swim and developing stronger technique for those already swimming, a number of students have been able to compete in races and charitable fundraisers.
