21-year-old entrepreneur is MooBoo’s latest franchisee

Annie Wu from Portsmouth becomes one of the youngest franchisees in the UK by setting up a MooBoo branch.

A young woman from Portsmouth has been proving that you’re never too young to begin your franchising journey by opening her very own franchise at the tender age of 21.

Annie Wu from Portsmouth has become bubble tea franchise MooBoo’s latest franchisee, after setting her sights on becoming her own boss as soon as possible. She started saving while studying for her degree in film and photography and managed to rack up an incredible £50,000 by the time she graduated.

After getting experience working at her family’s Chinese takeaway during her studies, Wu says that she’s gained valuable insight into what goes into running a catering business through her family and is determined to make her business successful. And with her love of traditional Taiwanese bubble tea, which is a brightly coloured milky drink containing tapioca balls, its clear Wu’s venture is motivated by her passion for the drink as well as her potential profits.

Speaking about the challenges of running her own business at such a young age, Wu admitted she’d had to sacrifice a lot of her free time to get her franchise off the ground.

“It’s been hard to set up. I’ve been planning this for a year but it feels great to finally be open. I did it for my friends and family, who have been really supportive. My parents were worried and they were saying “why take a risk?” but I’m young and I want to try. I believe in the business and that people will love bubble tea.”

Founder Eric Khaw set up Mooboo to bring a taste of Far East culture to the people of the UK, growing his franchise to have more than 14 branches across the country.
