The history of Autoglym car care products
Autoglym was first established in 1965, when motor trade entrepreneur Dennis Barley developed a special system for the renovation of used car paintwork. Autoglym’s original range consisted of 11 products total, including Autoglym paint renovators, Autoglym car polishes, Autoglym wheel care cleaning fluids and more.
Autoglym was bought by the Altro Group in the mid 70s, and has expanded massively since the launch of its retail range in 1986. This made its products accessible to and purchasable by a much wider audience (as they were originally only available for professional valets to make use of, but had become a coveted open trade secret).
In the early 90s, Autoglym’s base moved from Welwyn Garden City to Letchworth Garden City in order to accommodate its increased manufacturing and sales demands. In the same time period, the product range continued to expand and the company received ISO accreditation. Fast forward to 2021, and Autoglym is an established household name in the field of car care products, sold in more than 45 countries across the globe.
Our quest for perfection began with eight pioneering car care treatments that breathed new life into tired bodywork and wheels. From our original premises in Welwyn Garden City, Autoglym quickly became a trusted name, finding a home on shelves across the nation’s car dealerships and garages. - Autoglym
