Kumon learner becomes franchisee

A mother in Waimea, Hawaii, has opened her own Kumon centre after remembering the impact the franchise had on her as a child.
La’akea Bertelmann was disappointed to discover there were no Kumon branches near her home when she wanted to enrol her son onto the programme. As a child, she had moved schools and struggled with learning a new language. Luckily, her parents were able to send her to Kumon, and its maths and reading programme helped her improve her skills.
What’s more, La’akea was even able to surpass her goals and gain advanced knowledge, thanks to Kumon’s innovative learning programme.
Recollecting all the advantages of attending Kumon’s classes, La’akea was keen to enrol her son at their nearest centre so he could see the same benefits she had, years ago. And when she realised there were no local Kumon branches, she decided to launch one herself. Now, the dedicated mother is the proud owner of Kumon Waimea.
She said,
“I’m a believer in the Kumon Method because of the major impact it had on my education during the four years I was enrolled. Not all children learn the same, which is the main reason why this programme can be used to benefit countless students in many ways.”
Having experienced the effectiveness of the education franchise’s sessions first-hand, La’akea has an in-depth understanding of its business model and strategies. By providing daily worksheets, Kumon can help students progress far beyond the average level of their age group.
La’akea added,
“I’m looking forward to offering the same calibre of service that I experienced at Kumon at an early age. I feel fortunate to be able to provide this opportunity to my son, along with other children in our community.”
