A Big Thank You to the NHS for Protecting the UK During the COVID-19 Crisis
Becky Martin, writer
The COVID-19 crisis has had an enormous impact on the lives of people in every corner of the globe. Here in the UK, we are only able to recover from the spread of the coronavirus due to the tireless hard work and dedication of NHS staff. So today we say, THANK YOU!!!
Slowing the spread of the coronavirus and ‘flattening the curve’ is a collective effort from the whole of the UK. The single most important action we can do during the COVID-19 crisis is stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives. But from the comfort of our sofas, we can only imagine how frightening it must be for those on the front line putting their own and their families’ lives at risks to care for other people.
The Prime Minister Boris Johnson publicly thanked the NHS for looking after him in hospital in a moving video, which he ended by saying:
Our NHS is the beating heart of this country. It is the best of this country, it is unconquerable, it is powered by love. So, thank you from me – from all of us – to the NHS.
With the NHS being fuelled by the care and compassion of its staff to its core, the talented team of individuals are working around the clock and making huge sacrifices to protect the UK. We are so grateful for the hard work of the NHS staff, who are saving the lives of the Point Franchise team, our franchise network, their customers and every other member of the British public during the COVID-19 crisis and always.
Heart-warming ways the UK is saying thank you to NHS staff
It is safe to say that we aren’t the only ones saying thank you to the NHS. Lots of individuals and businesses are showing their appreciation in creative ways.
1. Clap For Our Carers
Every Thursday at 8pm, millions of Brits applaud the NHS heroes and other keyworkers who put their lives on the line to fight the COVID-19 crisis. Everyone has got involved, including celebrities and the Prime Minister, and it doesn’t stop at clapping – there’s even drumming, saxophone playing and dancing.
The emotional clap will continue on a weekly basis. See the dedicated website for the latest news on the campaign.
2. Sir Michael Craig-Martin’s flowery thank you NHS poster
One of Britain’s leading artists has designed a poster that adults and children can colour and display to honour the selfless work of NHS staff.
Now more than ever is the time to show our appreciation for the courageous work of our NHS staff across the UK. We might be in lockdown but, by colouring in this design individually and sharing it either in windows or digitally, you can show your personal support for the selfless work they're doing to save the lives of our friends, family and loved ones. – Sir Michael Craig-Martin
3. Writing letters
Lots of youngsters around the country have been writing letters to NHS staff, thanking them for their hard work. They’ve also been displaying rainbow posters, the symbol of support for people wanting to show solidarity with NHS workers, as a tribute.
4. Giving NHS staff discounts and freebies
Lots of businesses are doing their bit by giving NHS staff, emergency services and healthcare workers on the front line special treats. Coffee Blue is one example from our franchise network, with it sending free drinks to NHS workers.
5. Priority opening hours in supermarkets
When there was first talk of a lockdown, lots of people started to panic buy and stockpile certain food items, cleaning products and toilet paper. This resulted in some NHS staff not even being able to get their hands on the most basic items, including fruit and veg. Deeming this to be very unfair, lots of supermarkets decided to open early at certain points in the week and even daily to allow NHS staff to have access to the essentials. Almost all major supermarket brands are on board.
We now shine a spotlight on some of the great work of care franchises on Point Franchise.
SylvianCare
This family owned and managed business aims to help its clients enjoy the maximum level of independence for as long as is practical in the comfort of their own homes.
SlyvianCare took to Facebook to publicly thank its incredibly hardworking team of care workers: “Our care workers have not stopped doing what they have always done: providing essential care day and night, supporting our vulnerable clients [to] remain safe in their own homes, reducing loneliness and isolation.”
Hallows Care
This care franchise was set up over a decade ago and helps clients live a happy and independent life with its high-quality personal care and domestic services.
Hallows Care also showed its appreciation of social care workers and NHS staff on social media. It posted uplifting videos to spread some positivity, including a husband and wife singing and playing the piano and a video of the clap for carers in their area.
Walfinch
Founded in 1987, this care franchise provides outstanding care to help people live independently at home.
Walfinch is doing a tremendous job of keeping its carers and clients informed. When you click on its website, you are taken to the information that you need, including that regarding PPE and travel advice, as well as a coronavirus statement.
It’s also set up ‘Community Walfinch’ tips on social media, sharing the latest advice and clarifying information that could be confusing.
We want to say thank you to these and all the other care businesses on and off the Point Franchise network for keeping us and our loved ones safe and healthy.
NHS staff, emergency services and key workers – you are amazing!
We say a huge thank you to all the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are working every day to save lives and look after people affected by the spread of COVID-19. But it’s important not to forget the emergency services, armed services, delivery drivers, teachers, waste collectors, shop workers, manufacturers, cleaners, post workers, vets, engineers and everyone else who is working hard to help us live our lives and keep things running in these difficult times. You are all fantastic! We WILL get through this if we work together and look out for one another.
