About Sojubar
Franchise

Korean fried chicken, beer, and soju; the signature combination that defines Sojubar.

After much hard work and experimentation, the brand has honed their craft to develop the perfect balance in their dishes. Available in nine mouthwatering flavours – such as Garlic Soy and Cilantro Lime – the fried chicken is always crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and seasoned to the bone.

Other offerings include Korean classics such as Mama’s kimchi, a range of bibimbap combinations, and classic bingsu desserts, all of which can be perfectly partnered with the wide range of soju flavours and beers.

Sojubar is also known for the trendy, ‘Instagrammable’ urban aesthetics of their venues, and for featuring entertainment areas which add another layer to a Sojubar experience. Stylish steel, glowing neon, and vibrant plants all add to the cool atmosphere, while karaoke and beer pong build a lively ambience, encourage social media engagement and, most importantly, help to create unforgettable memories. The brand has achieved a massive social media presence, particularly on Instagram and TikTok, by showing off the venues, dishes, and rave reviews.

In addition to the incredible food and sleek designs, Sojubar is a smart concept with excellent operational prowess. Their products are all high margin, either due to the initial affordable costs of items (chicken and seasonings), the economies of scale in bulk buying (beer and soju), or versatility (soju also being used in cocktails).

Processes in the kitchen are kept fast and simple, allowing for quick staff training and product output, without the need to compromise on quality, or for specialised chefs. The supply chain has been fully optimised by the parent company, Maden Group, which efficiently manages transportation, warehousing, and distribution.

The concept has been tested in multiple locations, where it has achieved an astonishing revenue between £2.5m and £3.2m per restaurant, with an industry-leading EBITDA at maturity between 20% and 33%.

Training and support provided

Sojubar franchisees receive excellent support from the brand, starting with site selection, approval, and design experts to ensure the venue matches Sojubar’s trendy aesthetics.

The comprehensive training then begins with in-store operations training, which includes ongoing excellence coaching, knowledge on operational systems, and opening support.

Continuous support is available with access to Sojubar’s operational know-how, technological solutions. Essential marketing expertise, such as seasonal campaigns and collaborations, also help franchisees receive the benefit of the Sojubar’s fast-growing social media network.

In addition, funding support may be available via high street banks, asset finance companies and UK startup loans.

The ideal Sojubar franchisee

A Sojubar location can fit perfectly in lively, high-traffic urban areas. Big city high streets, university towns, and transport hubs are all excellent options.

The brand is accessible for both locals and tourists, with the main target audiences being a diverse range of food enthusiasts, young professionals, and students. Key venue elements include a prominent, stylish bar, spacious seating areas, room for entertainment, and ideally an outdoor space such as a terrace or beer garden. Venues are typically 1600 to 3200 sq ft (150 to 300 sq m).

A perfect franchisee would have previous experience in franchising, ideally as an operator within the Food and Beverage industry. They must have a commitment to excellent customer service and enthusiasm for Korean cuisine, with a focus on fostering a lively, relaxed atmosphere for guests and staff. In addition to managing in-store operations, a candidate should also have prowess in marketing and creating social media. Above all, an ideal franchisee will have an understanding and appreciation for Sojubar’s brand, sharing in a cultural phenomenon with delicious food, incredible culture, and diversity.

Sojubar is interested in franchise expansion in all regions, especially in the UK, Europe, and GCC countries. In the UK, Sojubar is open to both a JV or a straight franchise with someone that wants to bring a truly innovative Korean concept to the market. All proposed sites will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and assessed for suitability, footfall, and potential revenue.

Sojubar's history

Following a memorable night in Seoul enjoying delicious Korean comfort food and refreshing soju in a tucked away bar, four friends were inspired to create their own space to celebrate their and cultural roots.

In June 2021, Sojubar Rotterdam was born, offering authentic Korean dishes and a variety of soju drinks, bringing people together through good food and company, and acting as a bridge between cultures. As their popularity grew, so did the brand, and Sojubar now has 6 venues across The Netherlands, one in Belgium, and a goal to reach 30 sites by 2026.

As wider market demand for more culturally diverse dining experiences has risen exponentially, the popularity of Korean cuisine has also never been higher. This is also due in part to a more specific increase in interest in Korean culture, as the influences of Korean pop, dramas, and fashion have all naturally led to curiosity about Korean food, and thus a greater appreciation for the unique flavours of these dishes.

This growing brand is excited to grow even further around the world and is seeking to continue its journey through franchising. Joining Sojubar means becoming a part of a cultural movement on a mission to share delicious food and create amazing memories with guests, with the added benefits Sojubar’s operational know-how, technological solutions, and marketing expertise.
