Zip Yard runs kids’ fashion upcycling workshop

Zip Yard teams up with The White Rabbit to hold a fashion upcycling workshop for youngsters.

Clothing alteration service, Zip Yard, and fashion upcycling business, The White Rabbit, have come together to provide a workshop for kids to upcycle a piece of clothing they no longer want.

It all took place at intu Milton Keynes last Thursday from 6 to 8pm. Budding artists aged 8-16 had the chance to release their creativity while upcycling a piece of clothing that otherwise would have ended up in the bin. They could bring anything they wanted, such as a jacket that looked old or a skirt they were bored of, and they left the workshop with something ‘new’ that they felt great in for SS19.

The Zip Yard, which is located at the top of the escalator on the first floor of intu Milton Keynes, and The White Rabbit Workshop collaborated to give attendees’ wardrobes a refresh.

No sewing experience was necessary, with the workshop providing an opportunity to get creative, have fun and learn something, all at the same time. In the £15 ticket price for the event, premium haberdashery materials - sequins, buttons, trims and fabric - were all included.

On top of being able to embellish their clothes, they learned how processes such as upcycling have a positive impact on the environment and society as a whole.

Owner of the Zip Yard, Russell Golding, said: “Upcycling garments is something we’ve been doing on a small scale for years. Even before it was fashionable to upcycle, customers were bringing their clothing items in and asking us to update them in some way!
