The founder of Wok & Go has teamed up with Nook Mortgages to help feed hospital staff in Chester.

It’s safe to say that the whole of the UK is incredibly grateful for all the hard work of the NHS staff and other key workers. The founder of noodle bar franchise Wok & Go has joined forces with a Chester mortgage brokers to provide healthy hot meals to the selfless staff at Countess of Chester Hospital during the COVID-19 crisis.

Desmond Pheby is working with Katy Lehman, Director at Nook Mortgages in a ‘Feed Our Heroes’ mission.

Lehman commented:

"We heard so much on the news about NHS staff struggling to get their weekly shop done and that the cafes were closed in hospitals, so at times, staff were struggling to get a hot meal after a 12-hour long shift.

"So we decided to try and raise funds to get food delivered to them every day for as long as possible, a way to say thank you, to show them we appreciate them and give them one less thing to worry about in their daily lives to not have to worry about taking food with them for their shift."

Pheby worked out how much each meal was going to cost and agreed that his talented chefs would cook 50 meals a day. The generous donations from the public cover the cost of the food.

Wok & Go Chester has been working hard alongside pizza business Dough Dough, while adhering to the hygiene advice from the government.

Lehman continued:

"So far, we have been able to supply over three weeks of deliveries which started to be delivered to the Countess of Chester Hospital – we would love to try and keep this going for as long as possible during the pandemic.

"We need your help and donations so we can make this happen and try to provide more meals to even more staff at more times during the day and send them to wider hospitals.

"This is a not for profit in any way and purely to deliver food to our heroic workers. Nobody is making any money out of this and any profits will go back into the NHS, so please give generously to help #feedourheroes.”

She encourages any local food businesses that want to play a part in the food preparation to get in touch.

There’s an online funding page that has lots more helpful information, including where people can donate. The ambitious organisers have set a funding target of £10,000. But with the British public all pulling together and looking out for those in need during the challenging time, we have no doubt that they will achieve this.
